Wild Foods, June 2009
The following pictures are of many wild food plants - some native plants, some plants naturalized in North America. Many of these plants can be seen around the trails and grounds at the Ganondagan State Historic Site.
NOTE: Picking of plants or fruits on the State Historic site grounds is prohibited. No wild plants should be eaten or used unless positively identified by a knowledgeable person and the use and safety of the plant is understood.
The slideshow is not an exhaustive compendium of wild food plants. The slideshow and its associated document were originally created by Kimberly Burkard for a presentation on wild foods to 4th grade students in a "Pioneer" learning day. It is intended as an introduction to wild foods. Challenge! For those of sharp eyes, find the plants in the slideshow that are NOT food items!
