Ganondagan is special place and here is your chance to be part of it!
Today it is still a thriving place where both young and old enjoy learning about traditional as well as contemporary Seneca life from Native people. Ganondagan is a hands-on, interactive educational resource for over 10,000 school children and their teachers each year. Ganondagan collaborates with area colleges and universities to offer programs enhancing our region's creativity, attractiveness, and educational diversity. We partner with the Rochester Institute of Technology on an Indigenous Arts and Science Center, with the University of Rochester on health and wellness initiatives, and with Nazareth and St. John Fisher on educational enrichment programs. Ganondagan is a place where the culture of the Seneca and the people of the other five nations of the Iroquois Confederacy are celebrated with festivals, lectures, art exhibits, and more. In 2009, we welcomed 43,000 visitors from not only our region but also from outside of New York State and the United States. For every dollar of cost to maintain Ganondagan, our visitors put $5.00 back into the local economy. We partner with many local visitor and tourism organizations to contribute to the economic development of Western New York. Ganondagan also features over 600 acres of land and miles of hiking trails that feature vistas of rolling hills, wildflowers, wooded trails, and the occasional glimpse of the red-tailed hawk or beaver. In the hustle and bustle of the modern world, these wild areas provide our neighbors and our visitors with a much needed place to exercise the body as well as finding restive solace for the mind and spirit. The Friends of Ganondagan is a not-for profit organization that is responsible for making available the cultural, educational, and economic development resources offered by Ganondagan. These resources are made possible through the financial support of our members and sponsors. Members are an essential partner in our mission to foster greater cultural awareness and understanding through education. We hope you will join our support of this special place and its mission by becoming a member today! |
