Johnny Cakes

1 egg
2 cups cornmeal
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups milk
Butter
Optional - Powdered sugar or maple syrup

Beat egg. Stir in cornmeal, milk, and salt. Drop spoonfuls of batter on a well greased, hot griddle. Fry until brown on both sides. Serve hot with butter and/or powdered sugar/maple syrup. Makes 10 to 12.
