At the November 11, 2010 Canandaigua Treaty Day the stunning new painting by Robert Griffing, The Great Treaty of Canandaigua that commemorates the 1794 signing of the Canandaigua Treaty, was unveiled. We were pleased and delighted to sell a piece of that historic event to Treaty Day attendees in the form of prints.

About the Artist

Robert Griffing is an artist well-known and respected for his historically accurate and detailed paintings of Eastern Woodland Native peoples of the 18th Century. Many of the paintings feature the encroachment of Europeans and their culture into Native lands and society and as such, many of his paintings feature a conflict.

But the newly commissioned "The Canandaigua Treaty" painting features a shining moment of peace - a moment when the elder government, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the very young nation of the United States negotiated and signed iinto a treaty that has lasted for 216 years.
