A Seneca Encounter with LaSalle, September 2010
I had the opportunity to accompany a school group on a field trip to Ganondagan. It was a wonderful experience for me and certainly for the children for they got to experience our living history event, "A Seneca Encounter with LaSalle," for themselves.
Rather than read about him in a dusty textbook, they got to see LaSalle the French explorer. The children also got to see and talk with period artisans. They got to try Native games like Longball and their hand at archery. They saw LaSalle meet the Seneca people at Ganondagan. They saw people cooking in the Longhouse as well as musket demonstrations. The children walked through history!
We hope they took away many "gems" from their visit!
