What is a Haudenosaunee Peace?

This year’s juried art show at Ganondagan will have a theme. As we move into the year 2026, Indigenous communities are being asked to respond to the 250^th anniversary of the American War for Independence. For many tribal nations this anniversary represents tremendous loss and is a painful reminder of the devastation of war. For our purposes, we have decided to focus not on a revolutionary war, but on a revolutionary Peace.

We are asking artists to respond in their work and practices to the subject of Peace. We will select from the accepted entries, as many as six works to be included in the exhibition, Sgë:nö – A Revolutionary Peace. This exhibition will open in 2026 at the Seneca Art & Culture Center here at Ganondagan. The works will drive our exhibition strategy and focus. We are so excited to see how Haudenosaunee artists will produce and more importantly, what will you SAY about peace.

We are calling for Haudenosaunee artists in the five divisions of: Beadwork, Basketry, Traditional Arts, Fine Art 2D, and Fine Art 3D, to enter up to three pieces of new work for consideration in the show. (First Place - $1,250; Second Place - $750; Third Place - $500; Best in Show - $2,500). Each artist may submit up to three pieces of their own work for the show. Artwork to be exhibited at the Seneca Art & Culture Center Wednesday- Saturday, April 8th -11th, 2026.

All artwork must be available to purchase, and Ganondagan will have right of first refusal (the right to purchase before any other offers are considered). Artwork submitted must be the actual piece (not representative) and must be complete at time of application. Complete applications must be received by 5 PM Friday, February 20th; incomplete applications will not be considered.
