Fired clay

The Tobacco Burner is a traditional clay vessel inspired by the ceremonial practices of the Haudenosaunee people, where tobacco is offered with intention as a way of giving thanks, honoring agreements, and sending prayers upward. Hand-shaped from clay and hardened by fire, the piece carries the marks of its maker, reflecting a relationship between earth and human touch. Its rounded bowl is often etched with simple woodland or geometric motifs symbolizing unity, balance, and connection to the natural world. Darkened by smoke over time, the interior tells the story of ceremony and continuity. More than a functional object, the Tobacco Burner serves as a sacred bridge between earth and sky, holding space for gratitude, remembrance, and respectful offering.
